Euro 2016 Illustrative Posters - Initial Development

Joe mentioned he was doing a set of posters for one of his illustration projects after being inspired by this poster from the Football Museum and wanted me to help him with the typography on them.

He sent me an illustration of one of the players he was basing his project around so I had an idea of what I'd be working with and what dimensions the poster would be.

I used Steelfish because of it's similarities to the font used in the poster Joe was inspired by. I also tried to use slanted text, but found that the dimensions of the poster Joe wanted to use didn't lend themselves well to this.

I found that using regularly orientated text worked much better.

Joe and I discussed what changes we'd make - I said that there were more areas in the drawing that need to be blocked out in black which I highlighted in red circles, and he said that "France" was too small and looked like it was floating about a bit.

We decided we'd work further on it when Joe had the final illustration and colours, as this could help me make "France" look more in place.
